If you have ever looked on Ebay for an item that you are interested in, you obviously have seen just how hectic it can really get. There are bidders everywhere, and many times you may find that people are not so honest on this large-scale flea market like atmosphere site. This is not to say that everyone that you encounter whether it is a buyer or a seller is a crook, it just pays to pay attention to what you are doing when conducting your business there. The entire premise of a site like this is to allow for savings on items that you are looking for. Unfortunately some people take it upon themselves to scam buyers and sellers alike, in order to win big on what they want.

Western Union Transaction Failures

If you are selling an item on Ebay and someone is apparently interested but wants to pay by Western union, it would be advisable to pay close attention to the fine details of this transaction. First of all and for obvious reason, you will never want to send an item anywhere until you have received full payment for the item. If you send an item without receiving the funds for it, you basically gave that item away and you will not get it back. You will not be able to appeal to the site co-coordinators because you did not protect yourself during the transaction.

This is not the fault of the site, nor are they liable for compensation to you as a result of your carelessness. Many scammer try to use the Western Union ploy to rip you off, stating that they will send x amount of funds to you via this route. What ends up happening, is the seller sends the goods, and the buyer sends fake Western union information and the buyer looses plain and simple.

Personal Checks And Money Orders

When you are dealing with individuals on Ebay, the last thing you want to do is accept personal checks or sketchy money orders for the items that you are trying to sell. Not knowing who someone is should be the first red warning light, as the Internet is a vast highway of characters and not all of them are on the up and up. Taking a personal check from anyone that you do not know is down right crazy. If this check were for the purchase of something that you own, why would you just give that item away like that? With the way scammers work these days, you also need to be very careful with money orders as well unfortunately.

Many scammers have developed ways to fabricate fake money orders. If you are going to accept a money order for an item that you are selling, always try to cash the order before you even consider sending the item to the buyer. This will save you a lot of trouble. If for whatever reason this money order is a fake, it can be taken to the local authorities and the administration at Ebay can peruse legal actions against the buyer.
